Ericsson expands Philippines teacher …
Ericsson progressed an ICT teaching programme for educators in the Philippines, an initiative involving Qualcomm, Smart Communications and local specialists which the vendor expects to contribute to national digital skills and economic goals.
The second phase of the Connect to Learn: Teaching with Technology programme expands on progress made since the scheme launched in 2022. Ericsson stated the plan is to broaden the reach to additional high school teachers and trainees to bridge gaps in their ICT education.
Ericsson highlighted a GSMA report published in 2024 about learning in the Philippines, which found capacity building and training for teachers were wanting, presenting a barrier to “adoption of technology in education”.
The programme is also backed by the nation’s Department of Education’s Muntinlupa City division and the Philippine Normal University (PNU).
More than 1,700 trainee and qualified teachers have gone through the training so far.
The programme employs e-learning modules and immersive simulations using VR. Ericsson explained compatible headsets have been provided to the Department of Education and PNU, with Smart Communications handling connectivity through pocket and home Wi-Fi units, and prepaid cards.
Ericsson country manager Arda Cetiner said the scheme contributes to the government’s “digital skills and socio-economic transformation agenda and will ultimately lead to better learning outcomes and enhanced digital capabilities for teachers and students”.
