The City of Birmingham, in collaboration with Apple-backed nonprofit Ed Farm, has unveiled the “North Star Learning Lab” at the North Birmingham Public Library.

The initiative aims to equip residents with essential digital skills, workforce training, and creative technology. “This is about much more than technology and skills, it’s about unlocking opportunity for all learners with the drive and potential to thrive in our city’s fast-growing tech economy,” said Waymond Jackson Jr., president of Ed Farm.

Funded by the U.S. Economic Development Administration, the lab will serve as a model for future workforce libraries, promoting entrepreneurship and connecting aspiring workers with quality jobs.

Mayor Randall L. Woodfin emphasized the importance of the partnership, stating, “The North Star Learning Lab reflects our commitment to ensuring that North Birmingham residents have access to the tools and technology needed to succeed in a modern economy.”

The lab is expected to serve over 1,600 learners annually, advancing Birmingham’s dedication to innovation and economic growth.
