
26 Rota students earn digital literacy certification | Local News

TWENTY-SIX students of Dr. Rita Hocog Inos Junior/High School earned their IC3 Digital Literacy Spark certifications from Certiport on Thursday, June 5, 2025.
They are eighth-graders Aries Arriola, Rainoku Atalig, JJ Barcinas Jr., Naysha Barcinas, Ava Calvo, Marayna Castro, Ayiana Hocog, Shila Islam, Angelica Manglona, Felix Manglona, Joachim Maratita, Iya Mosqueda, Dvaun Ogo, Anthony Pernitez, and Dave Michael Santos; and seventh graders Mohammad Alamgir, Julia Samantha Atalig, Ge’selle Barcinas, Titus Feolino, Jassie Manglona, Johanilyn Manglona, Jakon Maratita, Darren Mendiola Jr., Makoa Ogo, Ha’leiya Salas, and Oscar Vino.
The IC3 Digital Literacy Spark certification class is part of the Future Proof Pathway of Certification courses offered by Island Training Solutions to Public School System students in partnership with PSS and its Career and Technical Education Program, which is led by Senior Director for Curriculum and Instructional Services Dr. Rizalina Liwag and CTE Program Manager Dr. Jessica Taylor.
The program is funded by a federal consolidated grant administered by the PSS Federal Programs Office led by its director, Jacqueline P. Che.
The Future Proof Pathway starts in middle school with IC3 Digital Literacy Spark, said ITS Chief Operating Officer Alex Hu.
He said this pathway of certification courses includes comprehensive technology, personal finance and business certifications and is designed to prepare students for success whether they are planning to enter college, the workforce, military, trade school or to pursue other post-secondary education.
The IC3 Digital Literacy Spark certification covers foundational digital skills, including technology basics, computer operating systems, computer hardware and software, introduction to Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint and Excel), digital communications and digital citizenship, online research and online safety and security, Hu said.
“I cannot tell you how proud we are of these students who worked hard all semester and successfully passed their certification exams,” Hu added. “We’d like to thank the PSS leadership, school administrators, instructors, parents and students for their support and continued partnership, and we are looking forward to the upcoming Fall 2025 semester.”
