Coursera Expands AI Learning Options in Mexico
As demand for AI skills continues to grow in Mexico, Coursera is expanding its Generative AI catalog with new professional certificates, courses, and specializations from leading global partners. The announcement coincides with the company’s celebration of AI Appreciation Day.
Mexico has emerged as one of Coursera’s fastest-growing markets for AI education. Enrollments in GenAI courses have surpassed 185,000, with learners in the country spending over 230,000 hours on Generative AI content since the launch of ChatGPT, equivalent to 26 years of continuous learning. The country’s engagement reflects a broader global trend, where Coursera reports an average of 12 new Generative AI course enrollments per minute in 2025.
Most Generative AI course enrollments in Mexico (98%) are at the beginner level, signaling strong interest in foundational knowledge and the need to develop more advanced skill sets. Millennials account for the majority of learners, followed by Generation X, Generation Z , and Baby Boomers. Gender participation continues to show incremental change, with female enrollment growing by 0.4 percentage points year-over-year. However, men still represent 59% of Generative AI enrollments in the country.
The increased interest in AI learning stems from a desire to remain competitive in a rapidly evolving job market, says Marni Baker, Chief Content Officer, Coursera. Additional courses and specializations range from retrieval-augmented generation and Java-based AI agents to financial services applications and strategic AI leadership.
To support broader access, Coursera has translated over 5,500 courses and 65 professional certificates into 26 languages, including Spanish. This initiative has driven over 3.8 million enrollments in translated content and reached more than 1.3 million learners in Mexico.
The new AI-focused learning pathways are part of Coursera’s broader effort to equip learners across age groups and backgrounds with skills relevant to the evolving demands of the global workforce.
