AARP Wisconsin shares tips on preventing online scams

MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) – AARP Wisconsin hosted an event on Tuesday to help teach people about the tactics that scammers use to steal money.

At the event in Madison, experts spoke about cryptocurrency scams and the use of Artificial Intelligence.

The goal of the event was to teach others about ways to keep yourself safe and also inform loved ones of the dangers.

“Older folks tend to share advice people in their lives,” said Courtney Anclam, a senior program specialist. “So it’s kind of like two-fold. We want to protect people, but also we want these people to share information with their loved ones and we know that they will.”

Experts emphasized that people should be wary when it comes to sending money. They encourage people to pause before hitting the send button and make sure they know who their money is going to.
