Beginning Friday, the Loma Vista Farm will once again be decked out in Douglas firs for the start of its Annual Christmas Tree fundraiser.

Beginning Friday at noon, sales will begin raising funds to support the farm’s upkeep. For years, the fundraiser has drawn community members back to the nostalgic site for some early Christmas preparation.

“It’s really great,” said Janice Sullivan, current President of the Friends of Loma Vista Board. “We have a lot of people come in, a lot of longtime buyers, and we run into people that we haven’t seen in a long time.”

From former Loma Vista Elementary students seeking a little nostalgia, to Vallejo City Unified School District peers looking to get a glimpse of the animals, community members of all ages have come out in support.

The trees, ranging in size from 5 to 9 feet, are sourced from Oregon, said Sullivan. Attendees can either meet at the farm to pick out a tree or visit Loma Vista’s website and reserve a tree for later pick-up. A delivery option is available for an additional fee for residents within a 15-mile radius – typically to make it easier for those who are older or less able-bodied.

The effort is one of the farm’s larger fundraisers, allowing its governing board to raise money to support the animals. “It’s a fun time,” said Sullivan. “It allows people to come in on the weekends, see our animals, and get a tree,” said Sullivan.

Three types, including Noble, Douglas, and Nordman fir trees, will be available for sale, as well as a limited number of tree stands. Poinsettias, known for their rich red and green foliage — particularly around Christmas time — will also be showcased for purchase.

After Friday, sales will resume every Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. while supplies last. Typically, depending on the yearly demand, sales last roughly three weekends from its opening day, according to Sullivan.

Proceeds will go toward the general upkeep of the farm, keeping its doors open, as well as feeding and veterinary costs. Officials are hoping to raise funds for the construction of a new poultry habitat.
