The African University of Science and Technology (AUST), in a strategic partnership with the Odyssey Educational Foundation, has successfully conducted a digital literacy workshop for its staff. The initiative, driven by the university’s Gender Committee, aimed to equip employees with essential 21st-century digital skills for teaching and learning.
In his opening address, AUST President, Prof. Azikiwe Peter Onwualu, FAS, underscored the critical importance of digital proficiency for all staff members. He charged participants to apply the knowledge gained from the training to enhance their daily work processes and improve efficiency.
Reflecting on the pace of technological change, Prof. Onwualu shared a nostalgic look at a time when access to a single desktop required queuing, a stark contrast to today’s easy access to personal laptops and mobile devices. He expressed his profound appreciation for the facilitators and the university’s Gender Committee for spearheading the vital program.
The workshop, moderated by Engr. Stella Uzochukwu, covered key areas including data collection and management, digital communication, productivity tools, and the application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to boost workplace productivity. Engr. Uzochukwu encouraged participants to embrace the new technologies with an open mind.
The program also examined the transformative role of digital literacy in enhancing communication, boosting institutional efficiency, and driving innovation within the higher education sector. By investing in this training, AUST continues to demonstrate its commitment to empowering its workforce and fostering a technology-driven academic environment.
