Bolgatanga Technical University (BTU) has secured a US$100,000 grant from the European Union to implement a two-and-a-half-year pilot project aimed at equipping graduates with advanced digital skills to improve employability and entrepreneurship.

The Integrated Digital Competency and Jobs Accelerator Project (IDAP) will establish an Integrated Digital Skills and Employability Hub (IDSEH) on the university’s Sumbrungu Campus. The hub will offer training in areas such as artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things, data analytics and cybersecurity.

The project is supported by the UN Capital Development Fund under the EU–Ghana Pact for Skills, which promotes sustainable employability in the tertiary sector.

At a validation meeting, Project Lead Alexis Adugdaa Ayamdor said the initiative will focus on graduate employability through skills development, stronger industry collaboration and improved pre-employment support. The team will also work to align institutional policies with industry needs, sign partnership agreements, reactivate advisory committees and host stakeholder fora.

“These efforts will ensure industry participation in curriculum development and expand opportunities for internships, mentorships and industrial tours,” Mr. Ayamdor said.

The project will also deliver updated infrastructure, modular training programmes, entrepreneurship bootcamps, job readiness workshops and graduate tracking systems, alongside mentorship and peer counselling schemes.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Samuel Erasmus Alnaa welcomed the grant, describing it as a “significant opportunity” for students to acquire relevant skills and contribute to national development.
