We are headed into the foodiest months of the year, and I’m already hungry.

And plotting which day I can spend making dozens of homemade pierogi with my best friend.

Sure, summer is amazing with all that fresh sweet corn and crab cakes and strawberries and ice cream, but we all know it’s the stretch between Thanksgiving and New Year’s Eve when our favorite foods are front and center.

Seasonal comfort foods, trendy appetizers, freshly baked cookies, and grandma’s favorite dishes that make the holiday complete, we love it all.

Of course, you don’t need me to tell you about the gut punch that comes lately with filling up a grocery cart – or even filling it part way. Likewise, dining out is expensive, and since summer, we’ve seen a number of Delaware restaurants close their doors for good. With talk of tariffs and rising food prices, they likely will not be the last.

Just as we make it our mission here at Delaware Online/The News Journal to keep you up to date on schools and government, development and public safety, so, too, are we committed to bringing you the latest food and drink news.

That includes offering wallet-friendly tips, such as our recent story on how to save money while eating out. Whether it’s a free drink at Wawa, ribbon-cutting giveaways or a fancy doughnut on National Donut Day, we will make sure you hear it here first.
