LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Do you use your bank’s online bill pay system? It’s convenient, but it turns out it is not always as quick or secure as your might think.
One woman recently learned she was behind on her mortgage after receiving a letter in the mail.
The letter stated that she had a late charge, and her payment was never received. The lender wanted her to make another $1,200 payment on top of it.
The woman checked her bank account and saw that her bank printed the paper check and mailed it, only to find out that it was deposited into a gas station’s account.
Even if you use online banking, your bill could still end up being a paper check.
The bank promised to make things right, and now it has corrected the woman’s account and removed all the late fees.
If you bank schedules your payments out four or five days, it may be a paper check. Consider setting up auto withdrawals instead.
