  • Partnership with Warwick Manufacturing Group (WMG), University of Warwick Follows Decade-Long Success of London Degree Apprenticeships at Goldman Sachs

Birmingham: 21 October 2025 – Goldman Sachs and WMG, University of Warwick, today announced the launch of their partnership for an inaugural Digital and Technology Solutions undergraduate degree apprenticeship programme in Birmingham. This new initiative builds on the decade-long success of the firm’s established London apprenticeship programme, offering school leavers a unique pathway to gain invaluable professional experience at Goldman Sachs while simultaneously earning a fully funded university degree in engineering.

This significant expansion underscores Goldman Sachs’ deep commitment to fostering talent and investing in the UK’s future workforce. It follows the firm’s £1.5 million pledge earlier this year to the West Midlands Combined Authority levy transfer scheme. These funds are dedicated to empowering small and medium-sized businesses, charities, and social enterprises across the region to invest in staff development, with a particular focus on critical digital skills.

Since establishing its Birmingham office in 2021, Goldman Sachs has rapidly grown its presence, now with over 550 employees in Britain’s second-largest city. The firm’s move last year to a permanent office at One Centenary Way provides substantial capacity for continued growth across key functions including Engineering, Human Capital Management, Legal, Audit, and Compliance.

John Chappell, Global Head of Market Data Engineering at Goldman Sachs and Sponsor of the EMEA Engineering Degree Apprenticeship programme, commented:  “I’m very proud of the success of our London apprenticeship programme over the past ten years. It’s fantastic to see how many of our apprentices have not only excelled in their roles but have also progressed to lead teams and become key contributors across the firm. Extending this model to our Birmingham office, in partnership with the University of Warwick, is a natural next step in our commitment to nurturing talent and supporting regional growth.”

Professor Rob Thornton, Associate Dean for Undergraduate Programmes at WMG, University of Warwick, added: “Degree apprenticeships offer a powerful and accessible alternative pathway for ambitious school leavers. They provide an invaluable opportunity to achieve a university qualification, earn a competitive salary, and acquire practical, real-world experience. We look forward to welcoming ambitious new apprentices and working closely with Goldman Sachs in nurturing the next generation of professionals, providing them with a direct route into the corporate world and equipping them with the essential skills for future success.”
