Georgia ranked No. 23 in teacher pay with an average salary of $67,641 and No. 35 in starting teacher pay with an average starting salary of $43,654. The pay for higher education faculty is ranked No. 31 with an average salary of $95,190. As for education support professionals, the pay ranks 38th with $31,472 for those in K-12. Meanwhile, the average pay for higher education ESPs ranks 44th with $41,096.

How do those figures compare to the national averages? Georgia’s average teacher pay is $4,389 below, the average starting teacher pay is $2,872 below, the higher education pay is $9,159 below, the K-12 ESPs pay is $3,482 below, and the higher education ESP pay is $4,566 below.

Where is the best pay for teachers?

  • California has the highest average salaries for teachers at $101,084 and the highest average salaries for higher education faculty at $133,447.
  • Washington, D.C., has the highest average starting salaries for teachers at $63,373.
  • Rhode Island has the highest average salaries for K-12 ESPs at $42,940.
  • Connecticut has the highest average salaries for higher education ESPs at $54,653.

Where is the worst pay for teachers?
