ZANESVILLE, Ohio — The Muskingum County Library System is hosting a digital archiving and digital skills program.

The program will go over the basics of material selection, ways to digitize media for preservation, metadata creation, and storage.

“The Muskingum County library offers a bunch of digital skills programming including basic and more advanced programming and our next one coming up this Friday is over digital archiving,” Digital Skills Assistant Librarian Kylie Bell said.

Anyone is welcome to join. The program is free through the library and takes place across the county. Staying on top of the evolution of media and proper storage is beneficial in a rapidly changing technological world.

“The thing about digital archiving is it is constantly changing looking back in the last 30 years, we’ve gone from floppy disks, 8tracks, we’ve moved through CD’s, DVDs to cloud storage, so it has shifted and its constantly shifting and the effort it takes to maintain the technology, so we don’t lose information whether that be family photos or important documents,” Bell said.

The event is on Friday, July 25, from 4 to 5:30 PM at the New Concord Branch. Those who are interested can secure their spot on the Muskingum County Library website. If you can’t make it this time, feel free to contact the library system for a one-on-one appointment.
