Kinston Teens honors first Digital Literacy Corps graduates
KINSTON, N.C. (WITN) – Kinston Teens, a non-profit that aims to positively impact their community, recognized the first group of teens and young adults to complete the Digital Literacy Corps.
The program equips participants with important technology skills, certifications, and paid work-based learning experiences.
It hopes to help close the digital divide by increasing digital access and opportunities.
Kinston Teens founder Chris Suggs says they have gotten a positive response to the program.
Suggs says, “I’m very proud of the students who were selected to participate and going through this program because the skills that they demonstrated already, the impact they’ve already been able to have on the community through our different outreach events. It really shows that they’re committed to bridging the digital divide and trying to make sure that no one is left behind as we emerge in this technology.”
The Digital Literacy Corps was launched earlier this year with support from the NC Division of Broadband and Digital Opportunity and a grant from the U.S. Conference of Mayors.
