Kinston Teens has launched a new Digital Equity Corps program and digital resource lab at its office in the Kinston Enterprise Center.
The new lab and class sessions were officially open on Tuesday, June 24, at the Kinston Teens office in the Kinston Enterprise Center, at 327 N. Queen St.
The Digital Equity Corps program is a new initiative designed to close the digital divide by equipping young people ages 16 through 24 with essential technology skills and empowering them to serve as Digital Equity Ambassadors in their communities, according to Kinston Teens.
During the course of the six-week program, participants will gain foundational digital literacy skills, including internet navigation, online safety, and software proficiency.
They will also engage with technology leaders and digital justice advocates, support community members through outreach and peer learning, and receive a $500 stipend and a certificate of completion.
The program is hosted inside the new Digital Resource Lab, which is equipped with computers, printing and scanning equipment and video conferencing tools.
The lab will serve as a home base for the Digital Equity Corps and as a broader community resource.
The first open lab was held recently and offered drop-in access to technology, internet, and digital support for residents who need help with job applications, scholarship forms, or essential online tasks.
