Leon County is combating scammers with digital safety workshop at the Leroy Collins Main Library
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – Scammers are cashing in on Americans like never before and Leon County said it’s time to fight back.
Thursday is National ‘Slam the Scam’ day, which is a federal campaign to warn people about government imposter scams.
In 2024, Americans lost more than $12.5 billion to fraud, which is up 25% in just one year.
Older adults lost $2.4 billion, which was four times more than in 2020. In response, Leon County government is hosting a ‘Safe Sense’ Online Safety and Digital Skills Workshop.
More news out of the Big Bend:
The workshop is on Thursday, March 26, at 11:30 a.m. at the Leroy Collins Leon County Main Library located at 200 West Park Avenue in Tallahassee.
It’s a free program designed for older adults but open to anyone who wants to feel safer online, whether it’s spotting suspicious texts, questionable emails or protecting your family from fraud.
People can register at LeonCountyfl.gov/safesense or call the Leon County Public Library.
