MLA Davidson back in Prince Rupert after busy month of August
Will fall right around the corner, MLA for North Coast – Haida Gwaii Tamara Davidson is highlighting upcoming events and opportunities for the community to enjoy before she wraps up an eventful summer.
Davidson was back in Prince Rupert to kick off September, partaking in the Labour day festivities on Sept. 1 at the Northland Cruise Terminal and Lax Suulda Container Market. Her team handed out free swag and popcorn during the ILWU Local 55- and Tourism Prince Rupert-sponsored event.
She will meet with Minister of Transportation and Transit Mike Farnworth and Parliamentary Secretary George Anderson before heading back to Haida Gwaii on Sept. 9 for the grand opening of the Masset Library and Haida Immersion Lab.
August was a bust month for Davidson, as she met with the MLA for Powell River – Sunshine Coast Randene Neill and engaged with the Tla’amin Nation.
“I had a great time catching up with constituents on Haida Gwaii and was able to tour parts of the Sunshine Coast,” Davidson said. “We joined the Tla’amin Guardians through their beautiful territory — witnessing firsthand how they care for the lands and waters that have sustained their community for countless generations.”
Davidson highlighted key programs that have been awarded funding and are crucial to the community, such as free adult literacy programs to improve basic writing, reading, math and digital skills. These programs are made possible through the Change Makers Education Society and Literacy Haida Gwaii Society.
“[These] will unlock new opportunities for people and help build a stronger, more resilient workforce,” Davidson said.
Davidson added that connecting British Columbians, especially in remote and rural areas, remains a top priority, as access to high-speed internet in these places is crucial. Having an emergency notification and evacuation plan is important for these areas as well, Davidson said.
“Before we say goodbye to summer, I look forward to seeing you all out in the community celebrating and enjoying the events that make our home so special,” Davidson said. “Let’s continue to keep each other safe and follow advisories so we can all enjoy summer together.”
