The Federal Government has directed the Digital Bridge Institute (DBI) to train Nigerian workers across public and private sectors in Artificial Intelligence (AI) over next three years.

DBI President/CEO, David Daser, who made this known at the 21st year anniversary celebration in Abuja yesterday, said president Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr Bosun Tijani, have given their full support for the training.

“Looking ahead, DBI, through its global network of partners, aims to train five million Nigerian workers, across public and private sectors, in Artificial Intelligence over the next three years. This ambitious goal is already in motion, bolstered by the backing of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, Minister Dr. Bosun Tijani, and Dr. Aminu Maida”, Daser said.

He said the Fourth Industrial Revolution is reshaping our world at unprecedented speed and AI, blockchain, cloud computing, data science, IoT, and emerging technologies are transforming industries and creating new ones.

Daily Trust reports that the World Economic Forum estimates that by 2027, 69% of companies globally will accelerate their adoption of AI, potentially displacing 85 million jobs while creating 97 million new ones.

But an IT expert who presented a speech at the occasion Chukwuemaka Gerald Okafor said the digital skills gap could cost Nigeria’s economy an estimated $11 billion annually in lost growth opportunities.

“The question before us is clear: How do we prepare Nigeria’s workforce not just for today’s market, but for tomorrow’s? This challenge led to the establishment of the Sector Skills Council for Information and Communications Technology (SSC ICT) – an industry-led organization and limited by Government guarantee dedicated to bridging the ICT skills gap in Nigeria”, Okafor said.
