ONLINE MEETING SUNDAY: How USPS workers can organize to fight privatization
The United States Postal Workers Rank-and-File Committee is holding a meeting this Sunday, May 18 at 3pm Eastern time to prepare a campaign against the privatization of USPS. Register for the meeting here.
The selection of FedEx Board member David Steiner as the new Postmaster General is a declaration of all-out war against more than 600,000 postal workers. His top priority will be to destroy USPS and privatize whatever can make money for FedEx and other huge corporations.
While these cuts have been prepared for decades by both parties, this shows once again that the Trump government is a dictatorship of the oligarchy. Through him, the handful of billionaires and corporations that run this country are seizing direct, open control.
Only mass action, including a general strike, can force a stop to Trump’s conspiracies. To prepare, we cannot rely on the Democrats, who are more afraid of workers than Trump, or the sellout union bureaucrats who are collaborating with management.
We need to build a new type of leadership, drawn from, organized by and accountable to the ranks. This new type of leadership is the rank-and-file committee.
A new movement must be built on a world scale. The USPS Workers Rank-and-File Committee is part of the International Workers Alliance of Rank-and-File Committees. Through the IWA-RFC, it collaborates with other committees around the world, including of postal workers in Canada and Europe.
Sunday’s meeting will lay the framework for a movement in defense of the post office. Sign up today to hear from workers across the country, postal workers around the world and discuss strategy and perspective.
