Perry DMACC to offer free digital-literacy classes

The Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) Perry VanKirk Career Academy will launch a free digital literacy course designed to support people with limited or no computer experience.
The course will meet on Monday evenings beginning Monday, Jan. 26 from 6-8 p.m. at the DMACC Perry Center.
This course is open to all community members who seek to build the essential digital skills needed to apply for jobs and succeed in today’s workforce. As more employers rely on technology for applications, on-the-job communications and daily operations, digital literacy has become a foundational employment skill.

“New industry coming to Perry in 2026 will be seeking the best candidates,” said Eddie Diaz, DMACC Perry Center administrator, “and we believe digital skills should be part of everyone’s employment skills,”
Participants will gain hands-on experience and confidence in:
- Using a computer, keyboard, and mouse
- Email and online communication
- Internet safety and privacy
- Helpful apps and digital tools
The course is intentionally designed to be welcoming, practical, and accessible for beginners, with instruction paced to support adult learners. There is no cost to attend.
