The Renewed Hope Initiative, in collaboration with the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), concluded its Women ICT Training Empowerment Programme with a closing ceremony at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The event was hosted by the wife of the president and national chairman of the initiative, Her Excellency, Senator Oluremi Tinubu.
Addressing the 2025 graduating cohort, Tinubu commended the participants for their commitment to learning and urged them to embrace humble beginnings, assuring them that dedication and consistency would eventually bring recognition.
She revealed plans to extend the programme to the wives of executives and encouraged beneficiaries nationwide to leverage their newly acquired skills to build a vibrant digital future, pursue self-development and seize opportunities within the digital economy. Tinubu also praised NITDA’s leadership for its consistent efforts in promoting digital empowerment for women across Nigeria.
In his welcome remarks, NITDA director-general, Mallam Kashifu Abdullahi acknowledged the First Lady’s continued support and noted that the initiative aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s ‘Renewed Hope’ agenda, particularly in driving economic diversification, human capital development and digital inclusion. He emphasised that technology thrives on human capacity and highlighted the implementation of the National Digital Literacy Framework, which aims for 95 per cent digital literacy by 2030 and a mid-term milestone of 70 per cent by 2027.
The three-week programme provided participants with practical knowledge in device and software usage, content creation, digital marketing, online safety and basic troubleshooting. Abdullahi highlighted growing women’s participation, reporting that 35 were trained in 2023, 252 in 2024 and 320 in 2025, surpassing 600 women to date. He further noted that, under the current administration, NITDA has trained more than 1,000,143 Nigerians, including 32,000 civil servants, in various digital skills.
The DG urged beneficiaries to take the knowledge back to their communities and mentor at least two to three additional women. Participants expressed deep appreciation for the life-changing opportunity and affirmed their readiness to contribute meaningfully to Nigeria’s expanding digital economy.
