The FBI says boys ages 14 to 17 are increasingly being tricked into sending sexually explicit images online and then extorted out of money or gift cards, or made to send even more explicit images.

TAZEWELL, VA (WVNS) – The holidays are a time for giving and sharing. Unfortunately, there are those who will take advantage of people’s kindness.

Scammers take advantage of emotional vulnerability and increased shopping. Phone scams and gift card scams have some of the highest victim counts, according to FBI.gov. Tazewell Sheriff’s deputies say there are new scams being formed every day.

“People come up with a new scam every week, we end up seeing a new type of scam that’s going on, that people are trying to make money off of,” said Sherrif Brian Hieatt.

Hieatt also encourages victims to reach out as soon as possible if they believe they have been scammed.
