Sleepover at Midcoast Humane Society helps raise money for shelter pets
Animal shelters across Maine are facing increased demand. That’s why the Midcoast Humane team is doing something a little different to help this weekend.
BRUNSWICK, Maine — Animal shelters across Maine are facing increased demand. That’s why the Midcoast Humane team is doing something a little different to help.
As part of the Cat Naps & Doggie Dreams fundraiser, 10 participants will sleep overnight in the shelter’s decorated dorm‑style space to raise funds and shine a spotlight on the animals in their care.
Volunteers will spend the night at the shelter’s Brunswick campus Friday, Oct. 24.
Among the sleepers is NEWS CENTER Maine’s Pearl Small. Pearl will be bunking with a friendly bluetick coonhound mix named Moose, who is currently available for adoption.

Midcoast Humane serves 39 municipalities in the midcoast region and cares for more than 4,000 animals each year.
Events like this raise critical resources for veterinary care, sheltering, enrichment, and adoption efforts. With more animals needing homes and fewer resources than ever, every adoption, donation and volunteer hour makes a difference.
The Brunswick campus, located at 5 Industrial Parkway has about 20 dogs and 50 cats currently available for adoption. Guests are welcome to browse the full roster of adoptable animals online at MidcoastHumane.org. On the night of the sleep-in, visitors are invited to go directly to the shelter for a special adoption event.
Until 7 p.m., visitors can meet the overnight participants, tour the themed sleeping rooms and with Halloween just a week away, enjoy family‑friendly activities like crafts and trick‑or‑treating.
For those who choose to adopt, a mystery discount will be offered on adoption fees. Just pick from a hat and discover how much you save.
If you miss the event, the regular opening hours are 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily except Wednesday.
