In the lead-up to the Stanbic Ongea Digital Creators Summit 2025 on 11 December, Stanbic Bank has announced a scholarship programme to motivate Uganda’s digital creators.
This initiative demonstrates the bank’s commitment to supporting the government’s digital transformation strategy and sustaining Uganda’s economic growth. This strategy involves fostering a vibrant digital market ecosystem.
During a recent press conference at the Onomo Hotel, Lois Aber Kwikiriza, Stanbic’s Marketing and Brand Manager for CIB & BCB, said: “These scholarships will give creators world-class capabilities to grow, monetise, and professionalise their work. This speaks to our commitment to youth empowerment and digital transformation.”
Uganda’s creator economy is one of the fastest-growing sectors, driven by young people, innovation, and digital entrepreneurship. The summit is a national platform designed to empower young creators by equipping them with digital skills, business capacity and financial literacy, as well as providing them with insights into responsible content practices.
The event is organised by the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC), Ongea Africa and the Uganda Digital Society, with Stanbic Bank as the lead sponsor.
The annual Stanbic Digital Content Creator Annual Prize, features five scholarship categories namely, Creator of the Year (Premium Professional Course); Emerging Creator Award (Short Course); Social Impact Creator Award (Mid-Level Course); Entertainment Excellence Award Motion Graphics & Animation and the Financial Literacy Creator Award – Business & Management Insights.
Kwikiriza said that the awards also align with Stanbic’s new Women, Youth, and Farmers Agenda. This is a three-year programme worth Shs1 trillion, which began in mid-2025, with the aim of unlocking access to credit, providing enterprise growth support and promoting digital and financial inclusion.
Referring to the bank’s financial solutions specifically targeting young entrepreneurs, Kwikiriza said, “This Summit aligns directly with Stanbic Bank’s purpose: ‘Uganda is our home; we drive her growth’. Stanbic is investing UGX 1 trillion over the next three years to expand opportunities for young Ugandans, including those in the digital creator space.”
Speaking for Ongea Africa, Joseph Kanyamunyu said that the summit is not just an event, but a national development platform. The Ongea Skills Lab will offer digital and business skills training.
Other key objectives of the Summit include raising participants’ awareness of policies, as mandated by the UCC. During the summit, the UCC will emphasise licensing and regulation to promote a secure and innovative digital ecosystem, as well as innovation and digital skills, through ICT labs, device distribution, and the UCC Innovation Hub Fair.
Kenneth Tweheyo, the UCC Head of Competition and Consumer Affairs, said: “We support platforms like the Ongea Summit because they encourage responsible content creation, digital safety and innovation. Together, we can grow a safe, inclusive and empowered digital ecosystem”.
