Telenet Launches Youth Mobile Plan with ChatLicense and Digital Education Support
Telenet is today launching Telenet Mobile Junior, a mobile subscription for young people taking their first steps in the digital world. For five euros per month, young people receive a limited amount of mobile data, call minutes and text messages, without the risk of unexpected costs. Young people and parents simultaneously receive free access to the ChatLicense app to guide them. With this launch, Telenet, together with ChatLicense and Mediawijs, wants to support families in a responsible and educational digital start.
Telenet group (the company above the brands Telenet, Telenet Business, BASE & TADAAM) wants to help everyone to always stay ahead in the digital world. The company also wants to support and guide sensitive target groups such as young people. With Telenet Mobile Junior, young people take their first online steps more safely and without unexpected costs, while parents receive clear and substantiated information to guide them. This offer is unique in the Belgian telecom market.
Telenet Mobile Junior costs 5 euros per month. For this, a customer receives 60 calling minutes, 500 text messages and 5GB of mobile data. There is no option to go outside the bundle, so parents are not faced with unexpected costs at the end of the month. Calls or text messages to paid numbers and numbers outside Belgium are automatically blocked. Data usage outside the EU zone (roaming) is also not possible. Telenet Mobile Junior is exclusively available to all Telenet internet customers.
Customers who purchase a Telenet Mobile Junior subscription will receive a voucher to use the ChatLicense app for 1 year for free. ChatLicense consists of an app on the smartphone of the young person and an accompanying app on the smartphone of the parents. Young people are taught the right digital skills via a digital journey through a fictitious city. At the end of the journey they receive a digital ‘driver’s license’. Parents can follow the progress of that journey and get access to a continuously up-to-date information platform where they can get to know the online world of their children better.
Dieter Nieuwdorp, Chief Commercial Officer at Telenet Group
The digital education of our children is a challenge. You want to give a growing child sufficient autonomy – also in the digital world – but at the same time you want to protect them from the risks that come with it. With Telenet Mobile Junior we combine an affordable mobile offer with useful extras such as educational tools and scientifically substantiated information, so that parents can guide their children in their first steps in the digital world. With this unique offer we hope to be able to contribute to the very current debate about the digital education of our young people.
Karen Linten, media education expert at Mediawijs
Many parents worry: can their children simply incur extra costs online? This Telenet subscription can help with that. The ChatLicense app can also help parents to teach their child new skills and to think together about when their child is ready to explore new apps. This way they can make clear agreements and keep talking about the opportunities and risks of the digital world. This is important, because parents play a crucial role in the education of their child, also in the digital world.
