“Tools, Treasures and Treats” event to raise money for MRC Tool Bucket Library
By The Chronicle staff
An event titled “Tools, Treasures and Treats” will raise funds to support the Master Recycler Composters (MRC) Tool Bucket Library from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 10 and Oct. 11 at the Floral Park Sustainability Project, 104 E. Floral St., Centralia, according to a news release from the Lewis County Department of Public Works.
The event will feature a sale of donated tools, equipment and baked goods on Oct. 10.
The sale continues and will feature a cider press on Oct. 11, to which participants can bring their own apples and containers.
Volunteers advise that 30 to 40 apples are needed to make 1 gallon of cider. Sale proceeds and donations for the use of the cider press will support the ongoing operation of the MRC Tool Bucket Library, one of the projects of the Master Recycler Composters of Lewis County, a nonprofit organization.
The MRC volunteers will need ongoing funding to pay for the library’s liability insurance, to repair and replace broken tools, and support the online library’s cataloging and reservation system, according to the news release.
Individuals interested in learning more about the MRC Tool Bucket Library or becoming a member can visit mrctoolbucketlibrary.org. Members can reserve tools between Saturday and Thursday for pickup on Fridays at Floral Park between 3 and 6 p.m. Tools must be returned in clean condition the following Friday, the news release stated.
Library members can:
• Borrow from a collection of tools for home and yard maintenance and renovation, sewing, cooking, hobbies and even games.
• Have flexible membership options with pay-what-you-can or yearly donations to support the shared resources, according to the release.
• Contribute by donating tools and supporting sustainability.
• Volunteer as a tool librarian, volunteer fixer or tool cataloger.
