A man has been taken into custody for allegedly circulating a provocative message via WhatsApp following the murder of Suhas Shetty in Mangaluru, within the Bajpe police station’s jurisdiction.

As per a Saturday statement from Mangaluru City Police, the contentious post was shared in a group called “Mangaluru Muslim Yuva Sene” shortly after the killing. Authorities determined the content to be inflammatory and unlawful, prompting swift legal intervention.

Initial inquiry led to the filing of a case under Crime No. 78/2025 at Moodbidri police station. The offense falls under Section 353(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which pertains to the dissemination of inciting messages through digital means.

In a procedural update, officials confirmed that the investigation has been shifted to the Mangaluru City CEN Crime Police Station, which handles cyber, economic, and narcotics-related offenses. The unit will now conduct a digital forensic analysis and track the origin and intent behind the forwarded content.

The accused, identified as Mohammad Anas from Vittla in Dakshina Kannada, was apprehended for allegedly forwarding the message in question. Police sources indicate that he is being questioned regarding his role in the incident.

A senior officer stated that the nature of the message had the capacity to disrupt peace and demanded immediate action. Further proceedings will be determined as more evidence is uncovered during the investigation.
