Islamabad, August 23, 2025 (Agencies) — In a landmark move to bolster digital transformation and inclusive governance, the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication (MoITT) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS), through its Technology for People Initiative (TPI-LUMS).

The agreement sets the stage for a multi-dimensional collaboration aimed at strengthening cybersecurity, policy innovation, digital service delivery, and public sector infrastructure. It also encompasses research and advisory support, product development, and capacity building, with a strong emphasis on gender inclusion and digital skills development, according to an official news release.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Federal Minister for IT & Telecommunication, Shaza Fatima Khawaja, emphasized the strategic importance of the partnership:

“This collaboration with LUMS will foster innovation, secure public digital systems, and deliver citizen-centric solutions. Government-academia synergy is vital for building an inclusive and future-ready digital Pakistan.”

Dr. Ali Cheema, Vice Chancellor of LUMS, expressed enthusiasm for the initiative, stating that the university is committed to supporting the government’s public mission through technology-driven governance and development. Usman Khan, Director of TPI-LUMS, added that the university’s multidisciplinary expertise will help deliver effective solutions aligned with national goals of economic and social prosperity.

The MoU marks a significant step toward enhancing transparency, efficiency, and accessibility in public service delivery across Pakistan. It reflects a shared vision to harness academic innovation and institutional capacity for a digitally empowered society.
