Back to school 2025/2026: The Minister of National Education…
Rentrée scolaire 2025/2026 : Le ministre de l’Éducation nationale annonce l’intégration de l’IA dans les pratiques pédagogiques
Artificial intelligence (AI), the driving force behind major educational transformations around the world, now offers the Senegalese education system immense opportunities. As part of the New Technology Deal initiated by the Head of State and in line with the Digital Strategy for Education 2025-2029 (SNE 25-29), the Ministry of National Education (MEN) is embarking on an ambitious initiative to integrate AI into teaching practices from the next school year.
105,000 teachers in AI training
To support this transformation, a national continuing education program will be launched in partnership with Cheikh Hamidou Kane University, via the Force-N platform. This program, open to 105,000 teachers, will include a specific module on the educational and responsible use of AI to strengthen professional skills and encourage this pedagogical innovation.
5,000 computers for science students
In the same vein, the MEN announces the distribution of 5,000 laptops to students in the first and final years of S1 and S3 in the coming days in order to reinforce the learning of scientific disciplines and prepare students for the use of AI tools, while developing advanced digital skills.
This reform is part of a strong desire to promote scientific fields to train a new generation of citizens and technological leaders, capable of mastering the challenges of the 21st century.
AI at the service of educational equity, despite connectivity challenges
Although some schools do not yet have a permanent internet connection, this should not be an obstacle to the gradual integration of artificial intelligence.
Indeed, aware of these territorial disparities, the Ministry of National Education, through the Digital Strategy for Education 2025-2029 (SNE 25-29) plans the implementation of diversified, hybrid connectivity solutions adapted to local realities to guarantee equitable digital inclusion throughout the national territory.
However, the Minister of National Education recalled that artificial intelligence does not replace the teacher.
Moustapha Guirassy emphasizes that AI supports and enriches teaching, facilitates the differentiation of learning and makes it possible to identify needs in real time.
To regulate its use, a National Ethics Charter for AI in Education is currently being developed. It will ensure that AI remains a lever serving the republican and humanist values of Senegalese schools.
