Free digital skills training workshops offered at Carson City Senior Center October 14-16
The Carson City Senior Center will offer a series of free workshops in October that are focused on helping people learn essential digital skills. The classes are being offered at no cost thanks to a partnership with the national nonprofit Connected Nation.
The workshops (classes) are intended for learners who are new to using a computer, the internet, and/or mobile phone and want to build confidence while staying safe inline.
“Seniors need to understand how to use a computer and safely navigate the internet,” said Courtney Warner, Carson City Senior Center Director. “Many of the resources, services and even goods that could benefit seniors are found online — and that trend is going to continue. It impacts everything from healthcare to government services. That’s why it’s important to get as many people to attend these free workshops as possible.”
Topics for the October workshops include using web browsers, creating stronger passwords, using search engines, navigating a mobile device and much more. They’ll be taught by Connected Nation’s digital literacy expert trainer and will be held at 911 Beverly Drive in Carson City in the Computer Lab.
Register by calling the Senior Center at (775) 883-0703.

Community members are welcome to register for as many classes as desired and are welcome to bring their own devices and are encouraged to share with others who could benefit.
“Connected Nation is proud to partner with the Carson City Senior Center,” said Heather Gate, executive vice president, Digital Inclusion, CN. “Our goal is to significantly enhance digital literacy in the region. We have designed these classes with that aim in mind and we’re eager to provide our materials to those who wish to pursue further education after the workshops have concluded.”
Institutions such as schools, places of worship, community centers, local governments and businesses are all encouraged to spread the word to ensure the success of these digital skills training workshops.
