In Topeka’s Central Park neighborhood—where more than one in five households lack reliable internet—Omni Circle Group is stepping up to close the gap. Backed by the Kansas Department of Commerce’s Digital Opportunities to Connect Kansans (DOCK) program, Omni has launched a new Community Tech Hub that will provide free, bilingual digital literacy trainings and no-cost technology rentals to local residents.
“Access to digital tools and skills isn’t a luxury in today’s world,” said Jessica Pauly, Omni Circle’s Economic Development Director. “Digital literacy is necessary to fully participate in our modern economy. DOCK funding allows us to meet our neighbors where they are—providing hands-on training that empowers Central Park residents to connect, learn, and advance in ways that strengthen the entire Topeka community.”
Free Bilingual Classes Begin This Month
The first two sessions are open for registration:
- Saturday, October 18 at 11 a.m.
- Wednesday, October 22 at 6 p.m.
Both sessions will take place at Omni Circle Group, 1301 S.W. Topeka Blvd.
Omni plans to train at least 200 residents annually, including 50 Spanish-speaking residents, in essential digital skills—from setting up email and creating resumes to accessing online education and telehealth services. Participants can also borrow laptops, tablets, and computer accessories at no cost as they complete their training.
Connecting the Community
The program specifically targets residents of Central Park and Shawnee County residents who receive SNAP, Medicaid, SSI, veteran’s benefits, disability benefits, or free/reduced lunch, offering them an opportunity to strengthen their digital confidence and job readiness.
“Our goal is to help people complete resumes, find better jobs, access online education, and receive telehealth services,” Pauly said. “Through this effort, we’re empowering people to improve their lives and the lives of those around them.”
How to Register
Residents can sign up by emailing [email protected] or calling 785-422-7459. Additional information about upcoming trainings and events will be available at www.OmniCircle.org and on Omni’s social media pages.
