TGI and GO team up to to upskill community
The Guernsey Institute and the social enterprise GO have launched a pilot project to provide essential skills training to people in the local community who are experiencing difficulties.
The aim is to improve the numeracy, literacy, and digital abilities of GO’s clients, boosting their employability skills.
The project launched this month and will run until February, with participants attending two-hour sessions each week focused on English, maths, and digital skills.
TGI says the initiative is part of its wider ‘Skills for Life’ community programme, which offers free courses, workshops, and drop-in sessions to improve literacy, numeracy, and digital skills across the Bailiwick.
Jane Fears, Director of Business Development for TGI College said: “We are delighted to be working with GO on the first of what we hope will be a series of similar projects. Our programme of free sessions is proving popular.”
Ms Fears continued: “This particular initiative allows us to create a bespoke programme for this group with the long-term aim of improving their employability skills for their future work pathway.”
The General Manager of GO, Mike Bougourd added: “We’re thrilled and deeply grateful for the opportunity to support our trainees in advancing their education. The ‘Skills for Life’ initiative is a powerful and transformative project – one that holds the potential to uplift countless individuals who might otherwise face challenges alone.
“We believe in creating pathways to growth, and this programme is a meaningful step toward that vision.”
