Kenya, 28 November 2025 – Kisumu County Deputy Governor Dr Mathews Owili has reaffirmed the county government’s strong commitment to turning Vocational Training Centres (VTCs) into hubs of productivity, innovation and enterprise.

Speaking at the launch and handover of digital skills equipment at Katito Vocational Training Centre in Nyakach Sub-County, Dr Owili said the county will keep investing in modern infrastructure, improve oversight and quality assurance, and build partnerships that prepare young people for the future.

He thanked the Stanbic Foundation, ATC, and Microsoft for their continued support of the digital skills programme, which began in August 2024.

“Ten institutions across the county were chosen for this life-changing initiative. Your support goes beyond a simple transaction – it is truly transformational. You are helping us open new possibilities for our youth and establish Kisumu as a regional centre for technical and digital excellence,” he said.

Dr Owili highlighted that the programme has already trained 35 instructors in digital skills and the use of artificial intelligence through a Training-of-Trainers course and refresher sessions.
