South Jersey lands one of New Jersey’s digital literacy grants
For over 130 years, New Jersey Libraries have done more than keep thousands of books on the shelves. These Libraries have offered services to the community including meeting areas, historical resources for researchers, computer labs, and free wifi for students.
In the 21st Century, a new area that libraries are serving the local community is with modern technology. That is why The New Jersey State Library, an affiliate of Thomas Edison State University, has awarded grants to five libraries in the state, with one located in South Jersey.

The New Jersey State Library is expanding the Digital Literacy initiatives, offering community libraries the resources to establish digital literacy labs that will host workshops and programs:
*Job Readiness in the Digital World
*Modern Computer Literacy
*Entrepreneurship Digital Training
*Individualized one-on-one coaching
The Atlantic County Library System is receiving a $24,500 grant in order to create a new digital literacy lab at the Egg Harbor Township branch. Located on Swift Drive (off Ocean Heights Avenue), it is one of ten library branches in Atlantic County.
“It is virtually impossible to find a task or activity that doesn’t require the use of technology, the internet, or Artificial Intelligence. Yet far too many New Jerseyans lack the skills or access to technology that supports full engagement in education, the workforce, health care, and more,” said Jen Nelson, New Jersey State Librarian, in a public statement. “In this environment, public libraries are positioned to provide access to skills-training and technology for all residents. Expanding Digital Literacy grants are giving libraries an opportunity to enhance and build their capacity to offer these life-changing tools and services.”
The four other community libraries receiving digital literacy program grants are:
*Asbury Park Public Library
*Carteret Free Public Library
*Elizabeth Public Library
*Jersey City Free Public Library
