Kansas City families to get free devices, tech training
KANSAS CITY, Kan. (KCTV) – A new program will provide up to 700 free devices and digital skills training to Kansas City families.
Riteway Development says it launched ADOPT 2.0 on Martin Luther King Jr. Day at the Vernon Center. The program runs through September 2026.
Organizers say many families miss out on government benefits, job opportunities and educational resources because they do not know how to access them online.
“We all have an older aunt or uncle who is constantly calling us, you know. I’ve got to upload this device, this document – things like that,” said Chelle McAffee with Riteway Development. “And what we don’t recognize is that in our community, trillions of dollars have been lost – that belonged to us – just because we didn’t know the access or that it was there or how to attain it.”

The program is expected to teach families how to use free public WiFi and navigate online resources.
