Palmetto Care Connections (PCC) hosted a Digital Literacy Training on Thursday, Jan. 22, 2026, at the Kingstree Recreation Center, helping residents in Williamsburg County build confidence using technology and telehealth tools.

Led by PCC IT Director Liz Saitz, the training provided hands-on instruction on device basics, email, Zoom, internet safety, and preparing for telehealth visits. PCC team members Jessica Samuel, digital literacy analyst, and Caroline Warren, telehealth coordinator, supported participants by assisting with sign-ins, assessments, and device setup.

Fourteen community members participated in the training, many of whom use MUSC as their primary care provider. As part of the program, each participant received a tablet to keep along with one year of free cellular service, allowing them to continue practicing their new skills and stay connected beyond the classroom.

Participant Jerry Kinsey, who was referred by MUSC, said, “Taking this class, I feel confident in doing a telehealth visit. I’m going to set up MyChart and schedule a telehealth visit with my doctor.”

“Being a senior and trying to adapt to technology can be challenging, but this class, and having this device, is really beneficial to me,” said Barbara Battle.

The training was supported through the South Carolina Telehealth Alliance (SCTA) and is part of PCC’s ongoing efforts to help communities strengthen digital skills and better connect with healthcare services.

Palmetto Care Connections is a statewide nonprofit organization focused on improving access to healthcare through telehealth, technology, and broadband services, with a special focus on supporting healthcare providers and communities across rural South Carolina.
