PLS focuses on Upward Mobility in March
Throughout the month of March, Pioneer Library System (PLS) invites adults across its service area to explore these upward mobility resources by visiting their local library or accessing tools online.
PLS is highlighting its system- wide focus on Upward Mobility, emphasizing resources that support adult learners, job seekers, and individuals working to advance their careers and skills. Through a combination of digital tools, in-library services, and community partnerships, PLS continues its mission of helping residents move forward at every stage of life.
PLS offers a suite of resources to help that can advance skills and build careers at no cost with your library card. LearningExpress supports professional certification preparation, career readiness, free test prep, and skill development. JobNow provides live online coaching for job searches, resume and cover letter assistance, interview preparation, and career guidance. BlueCareer focuses on training and career exploration for skilled trades and other blue-collar professions. Together, these tools help individuals not only secure employment but also grow and adapt to a modern economy.
“Life after high school comes with big decisions, college, certifications, careers, or something still taking shape. Having the right support during this transition can make a real difference,” says Outreach Specialist Heather Thompson. “Building practical skills, strengthening communication and time management, and exploring career options helps graduates feel more confident and prepared for what’s next. Just as important is knowing where to turn for guidance, tools, and encouragement along the way.”
As a trusted and embedded community partner, Pioneer Library System has a long history of supporting workforce development through job search assistance, business support, online high school scholarship resources, and many other upward mobility opportunities.
With workforce demands rapidly changing, these services are more critical than ever. According to Oklahoma Works, more than 70% of jobs in Oklahoma will require education or training beyond high school within the next decade. Currently, only 42% of the state’s workforce meets that demand, and nearly 13% have not yet obtained a high school diploma.
Beyond career and job support, PLS is ready to help with life’s broader needs. Community members can use library resources to manage finances, build or strengthen a business, learn a new language, or develop new skills that open doors to future opportunities. With a concentration on upward mobility, Pioneer Library System builds upon traditional workforce development by equipping people with the knowledge and tools needed to advance, thrive, and build lifelong stability.
PLS libraries also provide essential services that support these efforts, including printing, copying, scanning, and faxing. Many of these services are available at no cost, helping reduce barriers for individuals completing applications, preparing resumes, or managing important documents.
Throughout the month of March, PLS invites adults across its service area to explore these Upward Mobility resources by visiting their local library or accessing tools online.
