SOWELA Digital Arts students advance to district-level competition
LAKE CHARLES, La. (KPLC) – Students at SOWELA Technical Community College’s Digital Arts program are bringing home 12 awards from the Regional American Advertising Federation (AAF) competition in Houston, TX.
The AAF is the largest advertising competition in the US, recognizing excellence in creative advertising and marketing. It celebrates outstanding work in graphic design, video, digital media, and branding, with both professionals and students competing.
The competition gives students the chance to earn industry recognition, strengthen their portfolios, and connect with professionals, all while showcasing their skills on a national stage.

Winners include:
- Pedro Carlucci – Gold, and two Silvers
- Jacob Jewell – Gold, and a Certificate of Excellence
- Shelby Slone – Gold, and a Certificate of Excellence
- Cannon Brucchaus – Gold
- Jean Connor Couvillion – Silver, and a Certificate of Excellence
- Lily Hebert – Certificate of Excellence
- Maile Yang – Certificate of Excellence
The winners will be advancing to district-level competition, which includes Louisiana, Arkansas, Oklahoma, and Texas.
SOWELA’s Associate of Applied Science degree in Digital Arts and Communication prepares students for employment and advancement within digital media. Two concentrations are available: Graphic Design and Media Production.
