As Trevecca prepares for Giving Day 2026, students are playing a key role in spreading the word by using social media, club sponsored campus events, and personal outreach to boost participation and increase donations.

Beyond raising funds, Giving Day highlights the impact of student involvement as they help shape how the event is promoted and experienced on campus.

Giving Day, planned for tomorrow, March 26, is Trevecca’s annual fundraising event that brings together students, alumni, and supporters to raise money for scholarships, campus programs, and student resources.

In its 5th year, the event has become a major part of campus life, raising thousands of dollars in the past years while also encouraging students to take an active role in giving back. Through a mix of online campaigns and in-person events, Giving Day aims to make giving back accessible and engaging for the campus community.

Anita Shepperd, engagement officer for conferences and events, said many of the most successful activities come directly from student input.

For example, “Gotcha” is an interactive, campus-wide game in which students compete using silly strings after signing up with a small donation. The event has become a central part of Giving Week and encourages both participation and fundraising.

“Gotcha was born out of student ideas, and we wanted to do that because it’s fun and engaging and helps students feel the joy around giving.” said Shepperd

Sheppard said collaboration with student organizations has also been key to expanding engagement. This year, organizers partnered with the Practical Faith Club to connect Giving Day with service opportunities.

Sofia Espinal, president of the Practical Faith Club, said the group is focused on encouraging students to give back in a meaningful way.

“We’re basically encouraging students to write thank-you notes to our cleaning and maintenance staff,” Espinal said “We are also promoting a service project and creating ways for students to encourage each other.”

The club sponsored activities include hosting a “take one, leave one” encouragement wall and organizing a service project at the campus urban farm, giving students a hands-on opportunity to participate during Giving Week.

In addition to student-led initiatives, organizers have also planned several events to increase excitement, including a foam party outside of Hardy Alumni Building to celebrate the end of Giving Day.

Christy Grant, director of advancement operations and stewardship, said the goal is not only to raise money but also to increase awareness and participation.

“We want people to give to something they care about, and we want them to help us spread the word.” said Grant, noting that outreach can happen through social media, texting, or personal connections.

Troy Munn, vice president for institutional advancement, emphasized that Giving Day has a direct impact on students, with funds supporting scholarship and academic programs.

“Everything that they’re helping to raise comes back to help them,” said Munn, “We hope that one day, when they’re alumni, they’ll continue those habits of giving.”

Scholarships remain one of the most supported areas, though initiatives like Rebecca’s House have also seen strong contributions in the past years.

Organizers say their primary goal for this year is participation, aiming to bring the campus community together.

“Any gift of any size can make a difference,” said Grant.
