Filipino mompreneurs are reshaping homegrown businesses by embracing artificial intelligence (AI), using it to streamline operations, spark creativity, and make smarter decisions.

Once seen as complex and inaccessible, AI is now becoming a practical tool for everyday entrepreneurs—helping women automate routine tasks and focus on building purposeful, sustainable ventures.

More than just a convenience, AI is evolving into a vital support system. It allows mompreneurs to manage finances, identify trends, and generate new ideas with speed and confidence.

Real stories

This transformation is evident in the experiences of Filipina entrepreneurs participating in the Gemini Academy, a collaboration between Google Philippines, PLDT Home, and Madiskarte Moms PH.

The program equips women with the skills to harness AI and expand their business impact.

Princess Alvarez, owner of ISLA Everything Accessories, is one such entrepreneur. Despite having no technical background, she used Gemini to bridge creative storytelling with data management.

Through simple prompts, she generated complex Google Sheets formulas—building a custom pricing calculator and business tracker from scratch. This enabled her to automate profit calculations and monitor her business in real time.

Alvarez has since shared these tools with fellow entrepreneurs for free.

“Most of the questions I get… is how to price items. So I asked Gemini for help,” she said. “If I’m helping, I want to go all the way.”

Smart ideas

Meanwhile, Jenielyn Sicabalo-Nieva of MP Nieva’s Flower Company uses AI as a brainstorming partner.

She leverages Gemini to research global bouquet trends and suggest creative add-ons. Her biggest success came when her team provided flowers for a local film premiere.

Using AI, she identified the cast’s preferred colors and flowers—allowing her team to create personalized bouquets that delighted the actors.

“Gemini feels like an extra creative hand,” she said. “You can get ideas and improve from there.”

Any age

AI is also empowering entrepreneurs across generations.

At 64, Mercedita Madrona of Kusinanay’s Food Products uses AI tools in messaging apps and credits them for helping close a major property sale.

“Even if you’re not a techie, you can learn—and it really helps,” she said. These stories were highlighted during this year’s Gemini Academy event, held in partnership with PLDT Home and Madiskarte Moms PH.

Building on last year’s introduction to AI, the program now focuses on practical applications for business growth.

Google Philippines country manager Prep Palacios emphasized that AI complements—not replaces—entrepreneurs.

“AI enhances the ‘madiskarte’ spirit while the mompreneur remains the creative soul,” he said.

Support system

PLDT Home reaffirmed its commitment to empowering entrepreneurs through connectivity and digital tools.

“We are equipping mompreneurs to grow, compete, and succeed,” said Cheryl Maxine Loyola, PLDT Home AVP.

The initiative also introduced the Gemini Special Award for the 2027 Gawad Madiskarte, recognizing businesses that effectively use AI.

Growing tools

Behind these success stories is an expanding ecosystem of AI platforms.

NotebookLM acts as a research assistant, while Gemini’s tools—such as Lyria, Nano Banana, and Canvas—help generate creative content. Other tools streamline workflows, allowing entrepreneurs to reclaim time for both business and family.

As AI becomes more accessible, it is no longer limited to large corporations.

Instead, it is empowering everyday Filipino entrepreneurs to work smarter, move faster, and grow with intention. —Ed: Corrie S. Narisma
