“By facilitating the adoption of practical AI tools, these investments aim to ensure health workers in rural communities have the support and resources needed to translate innovation into better care for their patients.”

In rural Texas, models such as Hamilton Health Box are expanding access through modular clinics staffed by local nurses and connected to remote physicians via telehealth, enabling diagnosis, prescriptions and specialist referrals in underserved areas. 

These innovations are helping extend care beyond traditional clinical settings and into the communities where patients live. They also support health workers by reducing administrative strain and improving coordination across care teams.

Equitable care globally

The initiative also extends internationally, where the Community Health Impact Coalition is working in Kenya to professionalise community health workers and strengthen frontline care delivery. 

Supported by the J&J Foundation, programs such as AI literacy training developed by Digital Bridge are helping health workers understand and apply emerging technologies in practical settings. 

These efforts reflect a broader strategy to ensure that AI-enabled healthcare innovation reaches rural and underserved communities globally, strengthening trust, capability and access across health systems. 

Over time, these investments are intended to help bridge persistent gaps between innovation and real-world healthcare delivery.
