MOGADISHU (Dawan Africa) — Dawan Media, through its training arm Dawan Academy, in partnership with Simad Creative Studio, has launched “Journalism 360”, a two-week intensive programme aimed at equipping Somali journalists with modern newsroom, production, and digital skills.

The programme, hosted at Simad University, will bring together 20 selected journalists for hands-on training designed to strengthen editorial standards, technical capacity, and ethical reporting in a rapidly evolving media environment.

Structured over two weeks, the training combines editorial foundations  including newsroom culture, ethics, and writing for visual storytelling with production and emerging technology modules. These include video shooting and editing, motion graphics, and the responsible use of artificial intelligence in journalism.

Participants will take part in practical newsroom exercises, field assignments, and peer reviews, culminating in the production of real journalism content and a professional portfolio.

Alinur Salad, CEO of Dawan Media, said the initiative reflects a long-term commitment to strengthening independent journalism in Somalia.

“Journalism in Somalia is entering a new phase where storytelling, technology, and credibility must go hand in hand. Journalism 360 is designed to prepare journalists who can meet that challenge with confidence and professionalism,” he said.
