LAWMA sweepers complete Glo foundation skillbridge training – Daily Trust
About 150 street sweepers under the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) have concluded their training under the Glo Foundation’s Skillbridge development program, which provided vocational and digital skills training across Lagos.
The program, launched last month by the Glo Foundation, aimed to empower sweepers with skills in fashion design, beadwork, baking, and digital literacy, with the goal of broadening their income opportunities. Training sessions were held at various accredited centres across the state, including YetrosLane Training Academy in Gbagada, Bakery Initiatives in Yaba, and ALX for digital skills.
In a statement, the Glo Foundation said it was proud to support the participants’ development and praised their commitment. “They are putting their best foot forward and willing to learn,” said Ogunmade Johnpaul Tobi, coordinator for the fashion design stream. One of the beneficiaries, Damilola Ilemobayo, said her fashion skills, especially in beading, had improved significantly.

Baking training coordinator, Omotola Akinsanya, noted the sweepers’ dedication despite varying literacy levels. Participant Obadina Omowumi described the training as “life-changing,” adding that lessons in financial management and costing were particularly helpful. “I’m really glad about the training and grateful to Globacom,” she said.
For digital training, Oluwatosin Abiodun-Lisk of ALX noted the participants’ rapid progress. Among them was Mrs. Suliat Ojulari, who had never used a computer before but now confidently navigates digital tools. “I was initially discouraged, but now I am very good at operating a laptop,” she said.
The Glo Foundation is expected to host a graduation ceremony this week for the first batch of trainees.
