Coursera report shows Filipinos building AI and digital skills in 2025 Back End News
Coursera Inc., a global online learning platform, reported continued growth in digital, data, and artificial intelligence (AI) skills among Filipino learners in 2025, based on data from more than 3.1 million registered users in the Philippines.
The company’s latest learner trends report shows that Filipinos are actively upskilling in areas such as data analysis, project management, cybersecurity, digital tools, language learning, and basic AI. These learning patterns reflect the country’s broader shift toward a more digital and skills-focused economy, as more jobs require technology-related knowledge.
National policies appear to support this direction. The government’s Digital Philippines vision and AI Roadmap both highlight talent development as a key priority to improve the country’s competitiveness. This is reinforced by findings from the International Monetary Fund, which estimates that 40% of jobs in the Philippines are significantly affected by AI. About 14% of workers are seen as facing a direct risk of job displacement, pointing to the need for continuous learning as roles change.
AI and data-related courses remained significant to learning activity on Coursera in 2025. The platform recorded one enrollment in generative AI (GenAI) courses every seven minutes, compared with one every 15 minutes last year. This contributed to more than 125,000 total enrollments in AI-related programs to date.
While many learners still start with basic courses such as “Introduction to AI” and “Generative AI: Introduction and Applications,” Coursera noted a growing shift toward more practical programs. These include courses focused on using AI tools at work, improving productivity, supporting job searches, and learning prompt engineering. This suggests that more professionals are looking to apply AI in daily tasks, operations, and decision-making.
Learning activity also extended beyond AI. Many Filipinos enrolled in courses related to project execution, policy analysis, engineering systems, and psychology. According to Coursera, this mix shows that workers are developing both technical and soft skills to handle roles that increasingly cut across different functions.
“Filipino learners are steadily building the digital and professional skills that will open doors to stronger opportunities and long-term career growth,” said Ashutosh Gupta, managing director, Asia Pacific, Coursera. “We’re seeing sustained interest in AI, data, cybersecurity, and essential workplace skills, a combination that will anchor the country’s transition toward a more digital and globally competitive workforce.”
Coursera said these learning efforts are leading to tangible results. Its Learner Outcomes Report 2025 found that 95% of Filipino learners reported positive career outcomes, such as getting a new job or advancing in their current role. About 39% said their job performance improved, while 98% reported personal benefits, including higher confidence and a stronger sense of achievement.
The report also identified the fastest-growing skill areas in the Philippines. These include using GenAI tools to improve work efficiency, operational and project execution skills, cybersecurity awareness, communication and collaboration, and human capital development focused on training and coaching. According to Coursera, demand for these skills reflects the practical needs of today’s workplaces as digital transformation continues.
