Developed by the Nuremberg Institute of Technology and based on an EU framework, DigKom@OHM helps university students strengthen their digital skills, mindset and understanding of emerging technologies, like artificial intelligence (AI).

Learning through reflection and self-assessment

DigKom@OHM offers a flexible, modular approach to developing digital competences. Through three core modules on digital trends, lifelong learning and self-assessment, it helps students build practical skills and a forward-looking digital mindset.

The programme also encourages students to take ownership of their digital growth by:

  • exploring current technologies and trends, from information retrieval and data security to digital collaboration and AI
  • identifying personal learning needs and using online resources independently
  • performing self-assessments to evaluate their progress and document their learning journey

This blend of practice, reflection and feedback helps participants gain a deeper understanding of their digital strengths and areas for growth – skills that will remain relevant throughout their careers.

Students also have the flexibility to combine workshops, seminars and ECTS-accredited courses.

The programme is supported by a network of speakers and partners who ensure up-to-date content and real-world relevance.

Building on EU’s DigComp 

The programme is based on the Digital Competence Framework for Citizens (DigComp), which defines five areas and 21 competences that serve as a common European reference for digital skills.

By aligning with this framework, DigKom@OHM ensures its learning outcomes reflect European standards.

An adaptable model for future-ready education

DigKom@OHM shows how European initiatives can be successfully turned into digital skills programmes in higher education. Its focus on AI competences highlights how EU frameworks can support building skills relevant to students’ academic and professional futures.
