Racine Public Library to host Digital Literacy Fair March 21
RACINE — Racine Public Library will hold its annual Digital Literacy Fair on Saturday, March 21, offering residents an opportunity to connect with local technology organizations, learn digital skills and access resources designed to support digital equity.
The fair runs from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and will include technology-focused classes, community partner tables and refreshments throughout the day. Library officials said the event is intended to expand awareness of digital literacy, which includes the ability to effectively use technology in daily life.
The Digital Literacy Fair is hosted by the Digital Coalition of Southeast Wisconsin in partnership with the City of Racine Smart Cities Initiative and Racine Public Library. The event is sponsored by the Friends of the Racine Public Library.
All-Ages Programs
In addition to the fair, Racine Public Library is offering several programs for all ages during the week of Feb. 7–14.
Mahjong Gatherings will be held Saturday, Feb. 7, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Community Room on the second floor. The sessions introduce players to the traditional Chinese tile-based game that combines strategy and skill.
Maker Monday is scheduled for Monday, Feb. 9, from 1 to 7 p.m. in the Innovation Lab. Visitors can explore STEAM activities and try technology such as 3D printing, laser engraving, robotics and virtual reality.
Kids’ Programs
The library will host a variety of storytimes and children’s activities throughout the week.
Lapsit Storytime takes place Monday, Feb. 9, from 10 to 10:30 a.m. for children up to 24 months old.
Ruff Readers continues Monday through Thursday, Feb. 9–12, from 4 to 5 p.m., allowing children to practice reading with therapy dogs. Registration is required.
Tuesday Tales Storytime is offered Tuesday, Feb. 10, at 10 a.m., followed by Family Storytime with Miss Gail on Wednesday, Feb. 11, at 10 a.m.
Craft Time with Miss Keiko will be held Wednesday, Feb. 11, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., and Musical Storytime is set for Thursday, Feb. 12, at 10 a.m.
Valentine Craft Time is planned for Friday, Feb. 13, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., featuring love-themed crafts for children and caregivers.
Tween and Teen Programs
Teens can participate in Shameless Creativity: Solar System Necklaces on Thursday, Feb. 12, from 5 to 6 p.m. in the TeenScene area. The activity is inspired by a rare six-planet alignment.
The library will also appear on WRJN’s Don Rosen Show on Tuesday, Feb. 10, from 7 to 8 a.m., highlighting library programs and services.
Stitch N Bitch: Racine Fiber Arts meets Tuesday, Feb. 10, from 5 to 7:50 p.m. for adults and teens who enjoy crafting in a social setting.
Adult Programs
Adults can access several educational and support programs during the week.
Free Tax Filing and Preparation with VITA is available Tuesday, Feb. 10, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Thursday, Feb. 12, from 2 to 7 p.m. Appointments are required through United Way of Racine County.
Tabletop Games: Scrabble will be held Tuesday, Feb. 10, from 1 to 3 p.m. in the Business Center.
Gmail: What You Need to Know is scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 10, from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. in the Innovation Lab, offering instruction on basic email use.
Senior Games: Dominoes takes place Thursday, Feb. 12, from 10 a.m. to noon, and Craft & Chat will follow later that afternoon from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m.
