Spectrum hosts smart device class for South Carolina seniors
COLUMBIA, S.C. — Spectrum recently hosted two education classes with the Senior Citizens Association (SCA) of Florence County to provide seniors with helpful tips for maximizing their smart device experience. Recognizing the gap in digital literacy between younger and older generations, and the role technology plays in our daily lives, Spectrum created this program to enhance seniors’ digital skills. The free classes focused on protecting their identity and information online, and using apps to connect with friends, family and transportation, food and medical services.
“We are impressed by the dedication and effectiveness of the Senior Citizens Association of Florence and have returned again to partner with them to enhance lives in our digital world,” said, Marissa Lambrinos, Vice President, Charter Communications. “Through our ‘Spectrum Smart Devices for Seniors’ program we are helping older adults build their understanding of technology and stay connected, informed, and engaged.”
SCA provides digital literacy skills programs as well as general services to promote the physical, mental, and social well-being of senior citizens. The organization recently received its third Spectrum Digital Education grant award, bringing Spectrum’s total support for the organization to nearly $50,000 over the past three years.
“We are so thankful to Spectrum for once again bringing their digital education programs to seniors in Florence County,” said Linda Mitchell Johnson, Executive Director, SCA. “We are appreciative of our partnership with Spectrum as we both work to empower seniors to gain knowledge and comfort when using today’s online technology.”
