Cambodian students earn regional honours for AI innovation and digital skills
Cambodian university students earned multiple awards at the 10th Huawei ICT Competition APAC Finals, held at the ASEAN Headquarters in Jakarta, Indonesia, showcasing the country’s growing digital and artificial intelligence capabilities on the regional stage.
The competition, co-organised by Huawei and the ASEAN Foundation, brought together more than 8,600 students and participants from 13 countries to compete in cloud, network, computing and innovation tracks.

A Cambodian team specialising in artificial intelligence presented innovative solutions using Huawei AI technology to support the garment sector through smart defect detection and quality inspection systems.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, ASEAN Secretary-General Kao Kim Hourn stressed the importance of investing in youth talent and digital skills across the region.

He said young people are a key source of creativity, innovation and entrepreneurship, adding that digital talent remains central to the goals outlined in the ASEAN Digital Masterplan 2030.
Cambodian universities participated in national qualifying rounds before advancing to the regional finals, where several teams secured top prizes.

Students from the American University of Phnom Penh (AUPP) won second prize in the AI Innovation category, earning qualification for the global final to be held in Shenzhen, China, in June.
Students from the Institute of Technology of Cambodia (ITC) received third prize in the AI Innovation category. AUPP students also secured third prize in both the Network and Cloud categories.

Huawei’s ICT Competition is an annual global programme designed for university students and lecturers, aimed at strengthening ICT knowledge, improving practical skills and promoting innovation through the use of emerging technologies and digital platforms.
The event also served as a platform for regional academic exchange and collaboration among universities, industry leaders and technology partners across the Asia-Pacific region.
