A new workforce training opportunity is coming to Winona this spring. The Essential Computer Skills and Job Readiness program, running from Monday, May 4, 2026, through Wednesday, June 10, 2026, is designed to help job seekers strengthen their digital literacy and prepare for today’s workforce. In addition, participants will receive a laptop computer to use throughout the class and will be able to keep the computer upon successful completion of the program.
This comprehensive training program combines digital skills development with hands-on job readiness instruction. Participants will complete the Northstar Digital Literacy curriculum, covering topics such as basic computer skills, internet use, email, Windows, and Microsoft Office programs, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Upon completion, participants will earn digital badges and certificates recognizing their achievement.
In addition, the program includes a guided job readiness course focused on building confidence, developing workplace skills, and preparing for successful employment.
The eligibility requirements to participate are that individuals must be 18 years of age or older, be eligible for Adult Basic Education (ABE) services and not currently enrolled in high school, meet income guidelines (at or below 200% of federal poverty level) or identify as a person of color, and be a resident of Winona County.
This program is free to all eligible participants. Classes will be held onsite at Minnesota State College Southeast in Winona and will be held on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. for six weeks.
By the end of the training, participants will earn two certifications: Essential Computer Skills and Job Readiness. In addition, they will build confidence using online job applications, email, and workplace technology, as well as strengthen essential soft skills for long-term employment success. Plus, get a laptop computer!
