Participants will help build culturally grounded digital games inspired by Back to Batoche Festival and Michif language

Métis Nation–Saskatchewan (MN–S), in partnership with Maskwa Games, is launching a new training opportunity aimed at Métis youth interested in game development, design, and digital storytelling.

The Roblox Game Development and Design Training program will bring together a small cohort of MN–S citizens aged 18 to 29 to help build interactive games on the Roblox platform, including projects rooted in Métis culture and language.

The first game in development is based on the Back to Batoche Festival, and will initially be piloted in Heritage Michif, with plans to expand into additional games and other Métis languages in the future.

Subheading: Focus on culture, language, and digital skills

Program organizers say the initiative is designed to combine technical training with cultural learning, giving participants hands-on experience in game design while contributing to language revitalization efforts.

Participants will work alongside industry professionals to help develop interactive experiences that reflect Métis traditions, stories, and community life in Saskatchewan.

According to MN–S, the program is part of a broader push to strengthen economic opportunities for Métis youth in digital industries, including gaming and interactive media.

Successful participants may also be considered for future contract work with MN–S on Roblox development projects, depending on availability.

Cultural gaming and language revitalization

The project is part of a growing movement to use digital platforms to support Indigenous language and cultural revitalization.

Similar initiatives have already seen Métis-led projects launched on Roblox, including “The Métis Life Project,” which uses interactive gameplay to teach Michif words and cultural teachings to users worldwide.

MN–S says embedding culture in gaming environments allows youth to engage with language and traditions in spaces they already use daily.
